North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb has raised serious concerns about plans to decommission beds at Cranmer House. Just months after local people had been told that it was safe, the North Norfolk CCG announced it had served notice terminating the funding of beds.
Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) are responsible for NHS health services, and they’re supposed to consult before they make “substantial variations”.
Cranmer House has both NHS beds and beds funded by Norfolk County Council Social Services, which means nurses, therapists and support staff can work alongside experts from the local Social Services team.
It seems extraordinary to serve notice that these beds will be de-commissioned without any prior consultation
said Norman.
I strongly suspect that the CCG is in breach of its statutory duty to consult on the plans before they were finalised, given that it amounts to a significant change in the provision of local healthcare services.
Norman Lamb has now met with the Chair and Chief Officer of the CCG. They insisted that they would now consult with local people even though notice had already been served.
Leave a commentCaring for elderly people is a vital part of a civilised society. With the Tories in charge, my fear is that they simply do not recognise that the NHS needs more investment. We need your help to make sure the people with power are constantly under scrutiny. Electing Steff to become your Liberal Democrat County Councillor in May will give me a bigger team, and help us give a voice to the voiceless across the whole of Norfolk.
