“Keep an eye on your local services to make sure they don’t disappear” Liberal Democrat group leader Dan Roper has told people in Norfolk this morning.
His comments came in advance of this morning’s full meeting of the County Council, where the big issue is the way the Council plans to meet the £100m gap in funding over the next four years.
Conservative Council leader Cliff Jordan had announced at a committee earlier in July that many people in Norfolk were “too dependent” on local services and that the way services were delivered would need to change. However he also said that his administration would not shut any front line services like fire stations, Sure Start centres and Libraries.
“We are eagerly anticipating hearing how the Conservative Group will manage to find £100m, whilst not cutting these vital services” said Roper. “We’re worried that many services stand to be reduced to a shell. Far from believing that people in Norfolk are ‘too dependent’ on Council Services, we know that thousands of the most vulnerable people in our county, especially in rural areas, are already completely cut off. That number will only grow as the Conservatives erode vital services.”
